seus derivados, \u00e9 missionada a fomentar dados de cunho cientifico e tecnol\u00f3gico para uns dos setores brasileiros de maior relev\u00e2ncia, o sucroalcooleiro.  Desenvolve suas pesquisas no sentido de gerar informa\u00e7\u00f5es com base cientifica, disponibilizando para o setor da bioenergia brasileira para que possa ser aplicado diretamente no processo produtivo. A forma de financiamento das investiga\u00e7\u00f5es desenvolvidas da DBP inclui, al\u00e9m dos \u00f3rg\u00e3os de fomento, as pr\u00f3prias unidades produtoras, que utilizando os servi\u00e7os da Divis\u00e3o, na modalidade presta\u00e7\u00e3o de servi\u00e7o, no sentido de entender os eventos que ocorrem em seus processos, acabam por serem tamb\u00e9m fomentadores de recursos para \u00e0 pesquisa.  As pesquisas est\u00e3o focadas no entendimento da din\u00e2mica da microbiota habitante das dornas de produ\u00e7\u00e3o do bioetanol, de primeira e segunda gera\u00e7\u00e3o. Encontrar processos para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o do bioetanol, de custo reduzido e, portanto, acess\u00edvel ao pequeno produtor \u00e9 umas voca\u00e7\u00f5es do grupo que atua na Divis\u00e3o. Dentro dessa atua\u00e7\u00e3o, a Divis\u00e3o tem uma patente depositada a qual j\u00e1 foi licenciada. A Divis\u00e3o atua ainda, na busca de biomol\u00e9culas de interesse comercial a partir do acesso de micro-organismos proveniente da cadeia produtiva da produ\u00e7\u00e3o do a\u00e7\u00facar e etanol, com \u00eanfase nos produtos origin\u00e1rios da atividade das leveduras do g\u00eanero
